Why should you/I take part in the 2016 CrossFit Open?
This is a question that I have heard around the Box a lot the past couple weeks. Why should I spend $20 to be part of something that I have no chance of winning? Why should I take part in something that might present an exercise that I cannot do or that I am not good at? I might be out of town for one of the workouts what then? Why should I compete? “I’m not a competitive person.” Just a few of the questions I have heard from numerous Stand Firm CrossFitters.
My Answer…..CrossFit is all about taking on challenges and proving to yourself that you can do more than you ever thought possible. This will be our 3rd year participating in the CrossFit Open, and each year every single person does something amazing. Everyday, I try to put you through a WOD that will challenge you, bring out the best in you, and test your fitness in as many areas as possible. For the most part, I believe that you push as hard as you can. Guess what!!!! The Open will bring out a part of you that you have never experienced before. You are part of the world-wide CrossFit community, taking part in the same workouts as fitters in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and heck even Fraser, Colorado. As far as being competitive, you may not be a fierce competitor – but there is something about putting yourself on the line that sparks inspiration.
So, when do we do the Open workouts? Starting next Thursday, and continuing for the next 5 weeks, CrossFit HQ will release the 1st workout, (16.1), at 6 pm our time. We will then, as a box, do that workout during classes on Friday. The best time is from 4:30 on, in the evening, until we finish. The Box comes alive with everyone cheering each other on. For me this is the best part of the Open. Having everyone so excited for each other. Believe me is a fun time.
I know that I am excited to see just how I stack up with those in my age group. It will give me a chance to see what I need to work on and what I am good at. I hope you will join me in the 2016 CrossFit Open. If you want to get registered click here.
